Vow of Silence: March 28th – March 30th 2014

All lips sealed

I am humbly seeking your support as I embark on a personal journey in efforts to raise awareness and funds for the ALS walk (May 2014) in memory of my mother and for all those affected by ALS.

ALS is a progressive neurological disease that rapidly attacks and kills the nerve cells responsible for the control of voluntary muscles, eventually resulting in the lost of all controlled movements. During her battle with ALS, my mother had lost her ability to speak, move her arms, legs and body. The disease didn’t affect the cognitive skills, such as processing though, therefore she was completely aware of the progressive loss of her mobility and independence for nearly 4 years.

To communicate, my mother would use improved sign language (pointing, gesturing, etc.), whiteboards and letters boards. During my silence, the only communication aids I will use will be improved sign language and a note pad, all in the hopes to raise awareness both at work and within my community.

My goal this year is to raise $3000, so if you so generously wish to sponsor me or donate to the cause, please click the Sponsor me/Donate link below.

With love and huge gratitude to you for your support,

  1. I am not in a position to financially support you but wanted to let you know that I think it’s amazing what you are doing to raise awareness. My mom has ALS and it finally has taken her voice this year. She basically became completely paralyzed before and has told me ( she uses her iPad to communicate) that losing her voice has been the most painful part of the disease, especially when her grand daughter asks her a question and she can’t answer her. I will be sharing this on my Facebook because this is a great awareness campaign you are doing.
